H&HHammer & Hearth

Editorial Policy

Our Standard

Every article published on Hammer & Hearth exists to help someone complete a project safely, affordably, and correctly. We hold every piece of content to the same bar: would we hand this to a family member about to start this project?

How Content Gets Made

  1. Topic selection. We prioritize topics based on genuine homeowner and renter questions — not just search volume — and check for gaps where existing advice online is outdated, unsafe, or too vague to actually use.
  2. Research and drafting. Writers draft using manufacturer documentation, current building code guidance, and, where applicable, hands-on experience or interviews with tradespeople.
  3. Technical review. Any article touching electrical, plumbing, gas, structural, or fire-safety topics is checked against current safety standards and industry guidance before publishing. Where we're not confident a step is safe for an untrained homeowner, we say so and recommend a licensed professional instead.
  4. Editing for clarity. Every article is edited for plain language, accurate step ordering, and realistic cost/time estimates.
  5. Publishing and disclosure. Author and last-updated date are published with every article. Affiliate relationships are disclosed inline and via our Affiliate Disclosure.

Corrections Policy

If a reader flags an error — factual, safety-related, or otherwise — we review it promptly and update the article with a visible revision note. Safety-related corrections are prioritized above all other edits. Readers can report issues via Contact.

What We Won't Do

  • We won't publish DIY instructions for work that legally requires a licensed professional (e.g., gas line work, main electrical panel work in most jurisdictions) without clearly stating that requirement.
  • We won't invent statistics, studies, or expert quotes.
  • We won't accept payment in exchange for a favorable product review or ranking.
  • We won't bury safety warnings below the fold or inside dense paragraphs — safety information gets its own clearly labeled section.

Ownership and Independence

Hammer & Hearth's editorial decisions are made independently of our advertising and affiliate partners. Ad placement and affiliate partnerships do not influence which topics we cover or what we recommend within them.
